Envy

             Do not envy the wicked, do not desire their company; for their hearts plot violence, and their lips talk about making trouble. (Proverbs 24:1-2)

If you read or listen to Socialist thought, you’ll be told that the rich are wicked and should have their wealth taken away from them for the benefit of society. Simultaneously, as soon Socialism is established as the rule, supposedly those who are poor will be lifted up so that everyone is on the same level. The idea seems to be that wickedness can only be defeated if any means by which someone might be seen by anyone as richer or better in any way. There are some who say that wokeness is a level to be sought, but in proving oneself woke, one claims a level of superiority and therefore identifies oneself as the wicked rich.

Envy is a prevalent sin in our society and always has been. Consider the first sin: Eve and Adam wanted to be like the Most High, knowing good and evil. The first murder took place because God accepted Abel’s sacrifice, but not Cain’s. It’s likely that most mass-shootings are a product of envy, crimes committed to gain fame like someone else has or to feel as important as someone else.

Like resentment, envy is like drinking poison and hoping the other person will die.

    As I think about this a little more, I have an example of envy from my own life. This summer, there have been scads of videos of landscapers cleaning up the lawns and properties of people for free. Sometimes, the properties have been abandoned, or the owners have been ill or have died, so the places are real messes. And my response is a wish that some knight in shining armor would come along and "do" my property. Keep in mind that I mow my lawn once a week, and I work in my gardens. There are a couple of tasks that I don't have the tools for or (for some reason) I can't operate. There are plants I wouldn't want them to take out - but part of me is unhappy because "no one is that nice to me..." (Ugh - get over myself!)

Prayer Lists

                 Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good. (I Peter 2:2-3)   In connection with what I wrote yesterday about the possibility that I’m wrong, I’m feeling the need to go back to basics - craving spiritual milk because somehow, I missed something. It’s a little embarrassing, craving milk like a newborn, but the truth probably is that we are newborns many times in many ways in our lives. From God’s perspective, we may never be anything more than newborns, forever needing that milk. On the other hand, being a newborn can also be exciting because so much is new. My mind is playing pinball - ricocheting from one idea to the next and through six more before it happens to hit the third again. The main topic is prayer.
