As you come to him, the living
Stone—rejected by men but chosen by God and precious to him— you also, like
living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood,
offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. For in Scripture it says: “See, I lay
a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and
the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame.” (I Peter 2:4-5)
Have
you ever played Jenga? Imagine, trying to pull one of the 54 blocks out without
toppling the tower. To play it well, you have to pull out the one of the 54
blocks that will not only not cause the tower to topple, but which will cause
the next person fail. Sometimes, it seems like people want to play Jenga with the
Church. They claim that one doesn't need the Church (or a church) to be a
Christian, so they pull themselves out. Often, they take others with them. They
don't think it matters. Sometimes, they even try to claim they are right to
pull the Corner Stone out, claiming that Jesus is not part of that pretend
Church over there, He belongs to this little Church over here.
God is the Architect of the Church.
He is building it. To reject the Church is to play Jenga with His tower. Don't
be surprised when some of the living stones you meet aren't quite the gemstones
you think they should be. They haven't been revealed as what they are yet any
more than you have.
