He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. (Matthew 28:6)
“Where, O death, is
your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?”
The sting of death is sin, and the
power of sin is the law. But thanks be
to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore,
my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give
yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor
in the Lord is not in vain. (I Corinthians 15:55-58)
Then the angel showed me the river of the water of
life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of
the Lamb down the middle of the great street of the city. On each
side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit,
yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing
of the nations. No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God
and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him. They will see his face, and his name
will be on their foreheads. There will be no more night. They will not need the
light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them
light. And they will reign for ever and ever.
(Revelation 22:1-5)
Today, we celebrate. The going may be getting tough, but today we celebrate
the victory. “He is risen! He is risen, indeed!” And because He is risen, no
matter what else, we share in the final victory.
It’s easy to get tangled in the present with its challenges and issues,
and once one is entangled, it’s easy to see the rest of eternity as being more
of the same. But when the going gets tough, we need to remember that He rose
from the dead, and because He has been resurrected, so we, too, can be. No
matter how hard things get – and they may get very hard – what matters most is that
those things don’t matter as much as the resurrection does.
