My feet stand on level ground; in
the great assembly I will praise the LORD.
(Psalm 26:12)
Do
you take a stand? Do you speak out to others about God? It's easy to assume that this great assembly
about which the psalmist sings is a friendly audience, that they will agree
with what the psalmist sings. What I've found is that in any assembly, there
are those who agree with me, and those who won't; those who will love me and
those who will hate me. Moses and Joshua faced the same thing, so we're in good
company. Speaking up when we may be shot down, ridiculed or rejected isn't
easy.
What
does speaking out about God have to do with praise? It is praise. Listen to
someone introduce a speaker. You're likely to hear lists of accomplishments. Praise can be to the one being praised, or
about that one. Whether you tell God how
great you think He is, or you tell another person, you are still praising. It's nice when our praising God receives an "Amen!" from those around us, but it is still praise even if they say, "Shut up!"
