Weeping May Remain for A Night....


Sing to the LORD, you saints of his;  praise his holy name. For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may remain for a night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.(Psalm 30:4-5) 

            "Tomorrow will be a better day." That's the way this passage is sometimes interpreted, and sometimes, that interpretation is correct. There are other times when it seems like things will never get better and that God's anger with us is a lifetime long. I can understand that feeling. As I walk the streets of Hillcrest, or drive the streets of Erie, I see places that would be really nice to live. I know that I may never have a home like any of those during this lifetime. Sometimes, that hurts. Where's God's favor that lasts a lifetime? I know that the answer is that I'm experiencing favor, but humor me for a moment.
          What lifetime worth of favor are we talking about. When I am bemoaning my fate, I'm generally talking about this lifetime while I'm on earth. I'm not talking about the everlasting life that goes beyond today. What if our whole lives are, in effect, the night during which we weep? What if morning comes when we die? Would the hope of that favor be enough to cause us to praise His name?
            I know there are some who mock the "pie in the sky by and by" idea, but it seems to me that there's not much attention paid to heaven right now. Perhaps that's because considering heaven means considering hell. Or, perhaps it's because our focus is on here and now. But perhaps we should be singing to the Lord, praising Him about what He has promised, and rejoicing about the morning to come because that will help us endure the weeping of the night.

Think About These Things

                 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. (Philippians 4:8) This passage is a major challenge for me.
