Blessed are You, Lord our G‑d, King of the universe, who has granted us life,

blessing given on the first night of Hanukkah)
Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw
a ram caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a
burnt offering instead of his son. So Abraham called that place The Lord Will Provide. And to this day it is
said, “On the mountain of the Lord
it will be provided.” (Genesis 22:13-15)
Last
night at sunset, our Jewish friends and neighbors began the celebration of
Hanukkah. It commemorates the dedication of the second temple, when oil that
should only have lasted one day lasted eight. God provided. The Old Testament
is filled with God providing. Abraham’s live gives testimony to the fact that
God provides.
As I listened to the book of Jonah, God provided. He provided the fish that swallowed Jonah. He provided the leafy plant that grew up over Jonah and gave him shade. He provided the worm that killed the plant, and He provided the scorching east wind.
God provides light, and that which we sacrifice to Him. He also provides the means to our accomplishing what He gives us to accomplish and the means to the understanding He wants to impart. I see it happening around me in the situation with Dad.
