This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God’s servants, who give their full time to governing. (Romans 13:6)
But I tell you, love your
enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you
may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the
evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. (Matthew
5:44-45)
Now I will give all your
countries into the hands of my servant Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon; I will
make even the wild animals subject to him. (Jeremiah 27:6)
So in everything, do to others what
you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the
Prophets. (Matthew 712)
The election is all over
but the shouting (and hopefully nothing more than shouting) and at some point
in the next month or so, it will be confirmed who will be our next president. I’m
sure you have a preference, just as I have one. They may not be the same. That
doesn’t matter. If you voted, you did your civic and Christian duty. Thank you.
Others who have been
talking about the election have pointed out that no matter who wins, God is
still King. That’s very true, but while we may need our fears and worries
calmed, we also need to school ourselves in the proper attitude to have about whoever
wins. Not only is God still in control, but we have been commanded to love our enemies,
which includes not only the candidate you don’t want to win, but all those who
vote for that candidate.
You are to be a good
loser or a good loser – treating those who disagree with you the way you want
them to treat you, showing them grace. To do otherwise is sin.
