“Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.” (Isaiah 1:18)
My initial reaction was “We’re
back to Christian kindergarten? What am I supposed to write about this that
will be of use to someone who has bene a Christian for any length of time?” What, indeed?
For one thing, we need to
not forget it. Yes, God has brought this to pass. He’s not forgetting that He did
it. We may not exactly forget it, but unless some song or something someone
says brings it to mind, we may not actively think about it.
I’m not saying this in
order to shame or guilt anyone, but Thanksgiving is coming soon. As we contemplate
what we should be thankful for (and there is so much), this should be right up
there with “I’m thankful that God is God and I am not.” He has removed the stain
of sin from our souls.
I’ve never been exactly
neat and tidy, but it seems as if my clothes get stained within ten seconds of putting
them on. Maybe I don’t know how to get stains out, but it seems as if those
stains are there forever, announcing to one and all that I’m a klutz and a
slob. Don’t take me out in public because I’ll embarrass you. (OK, perhaps not,
but as I look at the stains on my shirts, that’s how I feel.) But God tells us
that no matter how stained our souls have gotten, He’ll remove them and make us
clean. Thank You, Lord!
