For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6)

and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6)
Have you ever listened to Handel’s Messiah? In “For Unto Us A Child Is Born” takes the verse above apart and puts it back together in typical Baroque style. Here’s a link: For Unto Us A Child Is Born. That’s the trivia of the day. Handel’s Messiah is one hundred percentage Scripture.
Isaiah wrote these words between 701 and 681 BC; seven centuries before the birth of Jesus. Look at the words… he will be called…Mighty God, Everlasting Father…. The Messiah was going to be called Mighty God and Everlasting Father. These aren’t names one gives to a mere human. Seven centuries before Jesus’ birth, God told Isaiah that God, Himself, would be born in and of Israel.
Sometimes, at least for me, it’s easy to be a little detached at Christmas. Working in retail took the “Christmas spirit” out of me. But Jesus’ birth is the beginning of the culmination of the Old Testament. It’s a time to celebrate the star of the show making his entrance. I bought a tiny Christmas tree to help remind myself that this is a time that I should be celebrating a miracle.
