The eternal God is your refuge, and
underneath are the everlasting arms. He will drive out your enemy before you,
saying, ‘Destroy him!’ (Deuteronomy 33:27)
For to us a child is born, to us a son is
given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (Isaiah
9:6)
The Eternal God, The Everlasting Father. This morning's passages use these two names
of God. I put them together because I've already discussed God's eternality,
but not in juxtaposition with His being everlasting. There's a distinction that
is both obvious and ignored. God is eternal. He has no beginning and no end,
but He's not our eternal Father. That's because until we were saved, He wasn't
our Father, but once we were saved, He is our Father.
People tend to use the terms interchangeably, but none but God is technically eternal. Anything that has a beginning but no end is everlasting.

God, Everlasting Father, thank You for granting us everlasting life, which is
eternal in that Jesus has given us His life. He has made us alive with Him
through Your Spirit. We are everlastingly grateful.
