The creation waits in eager expectation for the sons
of God to be revealed. For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by
its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the
creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into
the glorious freedom of the children of God. We know that the whole creation
has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time.
(Romans 8:19-22)
“Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!”? These are all destined to perish with use, because they are based on human commands and teachings. Such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom, with their self-imposed worship, their false humility and their harsh treatment of the body, but they lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence. (Colossians 2:21-23)
After two years of hearing that coconut oil is good for everything, news is coming out from the American Heart Association that coconut oil is dangerous. Of course, eggs were healthy before they became unhealthy before they became healthy. Fats were bad and carbs were necessary, not carbs are bad and fats are necessary. The search continues for what a person can and should eat that won’t do them harm in the end.
I’m not educated enough to argue the pros and cons of a particular macro-nutrient or food. As I heard a report about coconut oil, the passage in Romans came to mind. Food is supposed to nourish us, but the result of the fall was the subjugation of creation to frustration. People search for “clean” foods, healthy foods, and super foods. They move from diet to diet, always hoping that this one will be the one that makes them both feel and look good for a long time. Then someone publishes a study that shows that whatever they have been doing is all wrong.
I’m not suggesting you shouldn’t learn about foods or eat the healthiest foods that you can. I’m just suggesting there aren’t any perfect foods. About the time you find one that is healthy, someone will find out that it’s not, and when you’ve accepted that something isn’t healthy, you’ll learn that it’s not so bad after all. Such is life in a fallen world.
